History

60 years.

Innovation that made history.

The history of FAAC: 1965
1965

Giuseppe Manini was still a young boy when, one day, he went down to the courtyard to get his bicycle and noticed the gate had been left open — and the bike rack was empty. That moment sparked an idea: why not create an automatic system to close gates? He took a cylinder, a piston, and a rubber hose, connected it to the building’s water supply, opened the tap — and as if by magic, the gate closed. From that first rudimentary automation system, Manini went on to develop the famous hydraulic (oleodynamic) mechanism that, in 1965, gave birth to FAAC — and with it, the story of automation. Not just for gates, but for so much more.

The history of FAAC: 1975
1975

Between the 1970s and 1980s, FAAC evolved from fine craftsmanship to an industrial production process, while maintaining the same high-quality standards. The 402 hydraulic actuator was the first product to be manufactured through mass production. During this period, the first branches were established, directly connected to the main plant, ensuring the widespread distribution of FAAC products.

The history of FAAC: 1985
1985

The development of electronics marked a new era for FAAC products. Microprocessor-based control boards were introduced, enabling the creation of systems that went far beyond simple open/close functionality. The launch of electromechanical products expanded both the range and the user base, offering more affordable technology without compromising on quality. At the same time, FAAC continued to protect its innovations with a growing list of patents.

1995

Surface Mount Technology (SMT) is introduced, enabling a significant reduction in the size of electronic boards and the products that incorporate them. The BUS 2easy system — a two-wire communication protocol between control boards and accessories — is also introduced, simplifying the installation of both the system and its peripheral devices. The adoption of 3D CAD further accelerates prototyping and the development of component tooling.

The history of FAAC: 2005
2005

The introduction of 24V technology allowed for greater motor control and full compliance with the latest safety regulations. By integrating 24V into the hydraulic actuator, FAAC launched the innovative HYBRID product range — combining performance and safety in a single solution. Even before energy efficiency became a global priority, FAAC achieved maximum gearmotor efficiency with reduced energy consumption, thanks to the patented CYCLO technology. This led to the creation of the concept that would shape the near future: SAFE & GREEN, later extended to 230V systems as well.

The history of FAAC: 2015
2015

Traditional large-scale, repetitive industrial production was no longer sufficient to meet the growing demand for highly customized products. In response, FAAC adopted the TOYOTA SYSTEM. Its production lines shifted to a ONE PIECE FLOW approach, where each product is assembled in a single, continuous cycle—resulting in greater flexibility, improved quality, and increased production efficiency. Aligned with this transformation, FAAC also restructured its logistics: smaller warehouses distributed across the territory were replaced by larger, centralized hubs capable of storing greater volumes and fulfilling orders more rapidly.

The history of FAAC: 2024
2025

Innovation, vision, and the courage to go beyond boundaries—again and again. These are the values that have shaped the FAAC Group's journey since the very beginning. A story made of many chapters, all guided by foresight and a pioneering spirit that continue to serve as solid foundations for building the future.
